In Remembrance: Ohio Police Sergeant Scott Ries

Rest in peace, Rittman, Ohio, Police Sergeant Scott Ries (EOW July 5, 2026). Sergeant Ries and Medina County deputies responded to a report of a break-in with shots fired at a local residence. Upon arrival, the officers were immediately met with gunfire. Four Medina County deputies were shot and wounded. Ries was fatally shot. Ries served in law enforcement for 24 years. He was with the Rittman Police Department for 10 years and previously served with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Sugar Grove Police Department. Two of the Medina County deputies remain hospitalized. Sarge, rest in the Lord’s eternal embrace. Always Honored, Never Forgotten. Read More

On Saturday, July 4, Port Authority police officers protected attendees at USA 250 festivities on both sides of the Hudson River as America celebrated 250 years of independence and freedom. PAPD PATH Command Officers Help Save Woman in Crisis

On Sunday, June 28, a combined effort by a concerned boyfriend, PAPD officers, PATH personnel and EMS prevented a woman from harming herself. PAPD PATH Command desk officers were notified by the boyfriend of a 29-year-old woman after he received text messages from her stating that she was going to a PATH station with the intention of ending her life on the train tracks. PAPD Officers Arrest Armed Suspect at JFK Airport

Early Thursday morning, July 2, a New York City taxi driver was standing outside his taxi on the arrivals roadway at Terminal 8 of JFK International Airport when he was approached by a man armed with a knife. The man threatened the taxi driver by repeatedly lunging at him with the knife. After threatening the taxi driver, the suspect entered the vehicle, allegedly attempting to drive away. For reasons unknown, the suspect was unable to move the vehicle and fled the area. Port Authority Police Officers Oferman Jimenez and Chris McCutchan responded, interviewed the victim and canvassed the area. Read More

In Remembrance: Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira

Rest in peace, Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira (EOW July 1, 2026). Trooper Pahira was conducting a safety inspection of a commercial vehicle when his patrol vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer, causing it to strike the inspection vehicle, pushing it off the road and trapping and killing Trooper Pahira. The tractor-trailer also caught fire. Trooper Pahira was 44 years old and had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 19 years and six months. He is survived by his parents and sister.
